abstract

acid extract of solanum tuberosum was tested as corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1 m hcl and h2so4 media using different techniques: weight loss (in different temperatures viz., 303, 313 and 323 k), potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (eis) and sem techniques. the studies reveal that the plant extract act as good inhibitors in both the acid media and better in h2so4 medium. tafel polarization method indicated that the plant extract behaves as mixed mode inhibitor. double layer capacitance and charge transfer resistance values derived from nyquist plots obtained from ac impedance studies give supporting evidence for the anticorrosive effects of these plants. the inhibitive effect may be attributed to the adsorption of the inhibitor on the surface of ms following temkin adsorption isotherm. increase of inhibition efficiency with increase of temperature along with ea values serve as proof for chemisorption. sem studies provide the confirmatory evidence for the protection of ms by the green inhibitor. the study reveals the potential of the plantextract for combatingcorrosionwhich maybedue to the adsorption of alkaloids and other phytoconstituents.

New coumarin derivative as an eco-friendly inhibitor of corrosion of mild steel in Acid medium.

The anticorrosion ability of a synthesized coumarin, namely 2-(coumarin-4-yloxy)acetohydrazide (EFCI), for mild steel (MS) in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution has been studied using a weight loss method. The effect of temperature on the corrosion rate was investigated, and some thermodynamic parameters were calculated. The results indicated that inhibition efficiencies were enhanced with an incre...

Electrochemical Study on Newly Synthesized Chlorocurcumin as an Inhibitor for Mild Steel Corrosion in Hydrochloric Acid

A new curcumin derivative, i.e., (1E,4Z,6E)-5-chloro-1,7-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)hepta-1,4,6-trien-3-one (chlorocurcumin), was prepared starting with the natural compound curcumin. The newly synthesized compound was characterized by elemental analysis and spectral studies (IR, ¹H-NMR and 13C-NMR). The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M HCl by chlorocurcumin has been studied using p...

Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel in Acidic Solution by Apricot Gum as a Green Inhibitor

The inhibitive effect of apricot gum AG on mild steel in 0.5 M phosphoric acid solution was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS, linear polarization resistance and electrochemical noise EN techniques. The inhibition efficiency increased with increasing AG concentration up to a certain value and decreased with increasing temperature. Polarizat...

Turmeric extract as a biocompatible inhibitor of mild steel corrosion in 3.5% NaCl solution

Corrosion inhibitory impacts of turmeric with concentrations of 200-800 ppm on the electrochemical behavior of mild steel were studied in the medium of NaCl 3.5% using several techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used for analyzing the surface of mild steel after 24 hours of immersion in the electrolyte solution...

Inhibitive Assesment of Stearamide as a Corrosion Inhibitor for Mild Steel in HCl Solution

In this study effect of Stearamide as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in hydrochloric acid media was investigated employing various electrochemical techniques include potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and liner polarization resistance (LPR). In view of the fact that Stearamide is an insoluble compound in water, its inhibitive effect was examined by ...
